Spencer Martin cleared waivers Tuesday morning and the Vancouver Canucks goaltender will now be assigned to affiliate Abbotsford of the American Hockey League
Martin, 27, has another year left on his National Hockey League contract at US$762,500 salary cap hit next season and that could have been a determining factor in not being claimed. Then again, he isn’t having a great season.
Martin has suffered 10 straight regulation losses and has an 11-15-1 NHL record this season with a bloated 3.99 goals-against average and lowly .871 saves percentage. It’s a far cry from being recalled last season from the AHL, going 3-0-3 with a 1.74 GAA and .950 saves
