Microsoft is continuing its drumbeat of announcements around the end-of-life of Windows XP, the company’s venerable–but highly outdated–operating system. The company today said that Windows 8.1 and Office 365 are an “easy transition” for current Windows XP users, saying that users ought to upgrade before April 8th–when Microsoft is completely cutting off support for Windows XP and Office 2003. Microsoft said the new OS and Office will “look and feel a little different” but are “designed for how we work today”. The company’s sunset on upgrades to the software–including all security patches–is threatening to unleash massive security issues for users who are caught unaware that their old desktop PC–is now open to easy hacking and compromise.
