South Sound 911 announced Wednesday that it received 3,124 calls on Fourth of July this year, in addition to 545 reports received via its FireworksReport.com tool.
Of the 3,124 calls, 627 were non-emergency calls. Leading up to the Fourth of July holiday, Pierce County had been encouraging residents to issue fireworks complaints to non-emergency numbers or to use online tools like the Fireworks Report website.
Those numbers are down from last year, when South Sound 911 received a total of 5,013 calls, 1,485 of which were non-emergency.
South Sound 911 launched the fireworks reporting website on Friday, July 1 at 6 p.m.
In total, the website fielded 909 reports from 6 p.m. on July 1
