Like other fire departments in the area, Spokane Valley Fire Department crews were kept hopping on Jan. 13 as the wind toppled trees into power lines and onto homes and cars, prompting numerous 911 calls.
The wind became severe in the early morning hours, with the first call coming in at 3:58 a.m. in the 5000 block of North Chase Road. A large tree fell in the front yard of a home, taking power lines down with it.
