Morgan Stanley will host a pricey fundraising breakfast for Republican nominee-in-waiting Mitt Romney at its Manhattan headquarters of July 9th, the latest signal of Wall Street’s anger with President Obama.
Employees were sent “an invitation to meet with Mitt Romney” with the message: “We hope that you will consider attending the breakfast and contributing $2,500-$5,000 in order to ensure the success of this event.”
The invite was signed by ex-CEO John Mack (a major figure in HBO’s made-for-TV movie on the 2008 economic meltdown), COO Jim Rosenthal, vice chairman Jeffrey Holzschuh, and Stephen Munger, the firm’s co-chair of mergers and acquisitions.
“Your participation here is completely voluntary and no employee will be benfitted or disadvantaged by the amount they give or their decision not to contribute,” said an invite, obtained by Talking Points Memo.
Romney was in Manhattan last week for a closed-door, $50,000-a-person dinner hosted by real estate mogul Donald Trump.
After a vacation at his New Hampshire estate this week, Romney will be on the money trail cross country next week.
Three days after breakfasting on the 41st floor of the Morgan Stanley building, he will travel to real high country — a fund raising dinner at the Jackson, Wyoming, retreat of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
The event will put money into the coffers of Romney’s “Victory Fund,” to which wealthy donors are being asked to fork up as much as $75,800.
“Jackson Hole is a beautiful summer destination and this will be a memorable event,” said an invite.
