“The narrative [of After Boucher] was established around this notion I’ve carried with me, since I was five or six, that I was a monster because I didn’t understand who I was. Growing up without ever knowing anything about being trans was a complete vacuum of self-awareness. And so the only word I had to describe myself as a kid was “monster.” And what’s interesting is that I’ve actually talked with other trans folk of my generation, and they also used that word for themselves…so I created a narrative around these minotaurs and harpies and self-portraits….
