A federal judge has blocked part of Idaho’s strict abortion ban from taking effect.
The provision denies abortions even in medical emergencies.
The judge’s ruling means at least for now, hospitals in Idaho may continue treating ectopic pregnancies and other pregnancy-related complications normally.
Idaho’s law makes performing an abortion in any “clinically diagnosable pregnancy,” a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
In a written ruling, the judge said the pause on enforcement will continue, until a lawsuit challenging the ban is resolved.
