Phil Fischer, the internet and idea guru turned heads in silicon forest (Redmond, WA to you noobs) today when word leaked out that he turned down 7.3 million in VC capitol by Advanced Technology to develop one of his ideas.
No one does that, especially in today’s economy.
“We thought Fischer was dead on the vine somewhere in Silicon forest licking his wounds after the texasholdem.com beating” Adrian Bartow told the reporter this morning, “Until we heard he turned down Advanced, and no-one turns down Advanced”. Fischer apparently does and what I am learning from some of his London devs is that he could care less.
When reached for comment Fischer emailed “I no longer wish to work with VC firms and going forward I am going to concentrate on my ministry”. According to Bellevue insiders, Fischer is planning on leaving the dot com world to run a small Jesus group in Seattle, but that’s another story.
Phil Fischer, an 8th grade drop-out from Alaska is best known as a wilderness recluse and a no nonsense guy that made a fortune selling domains and he is best known for founding the world’s first web design firm established in 1989. For years he has sold ideas to VC firms as well as developing some of the most ingenious ideas in dot com.
As most of our readers know from a previous story, Fischer was embarrassed in domain land some years back when due to an address change he lost texasholdem.com, a domain name he owned since the early 90’s. But due to an overdue invoice Fischer never received, someone picked it up and then sold it for 2.4M. How can you sleep after that?
Many VC firms seek him out due to his ability to see the future and for the last 10 years Fischer has worked his magic as a one man operation from his location in Bellevue managing overseas developers building out trendy ideas based on his inside relationship with executives at the two search engine giants.
“I want to know what Fischer is dreaming up”, Bartow whispered in my ear as we left the future of web apps conference in Vegas. “If Fischer is turning down VC money that can only mean its one hell of a good idea or he has a “friend” in the diamond business and I want to know what these trends are.”
Recognized by numerous magazines for his amazing ideas including developing the code behind www.esecrets.com, no one in this economy has .com ideas that good to turn down 7 million bucks. Someone got some cash or a maybe a new friend. Maybe it’s Warren Lubow, Microsoft’s 23rd employee and son of Mariam Lubow, Gate’s private secretary for 40 years who I notice is always by his side in Bellevue.
I would love to be a fly on the wall and find out exactly what .com’s are being formed in his head, but that too is another story.
