BELLEVUE, Wash. — Searchers were back out Tuesday looking for a man whose boat capsized Monday night in Phantom Lake. His child, a 5-year-old boy, was pulled from the water. A life vest saved that boy’s life.
Someone called 911 after seeing the boat capsize just before 9:30 p.m. and the boy struggling to get to shore, according to police. A rescue swimmer was able to help the boy swim some 150 yards to shore.
The boy was sent to the hospital as a precaution but is expected to be just fine.
With only 45 minutes of daylight, rescuers were unable to find the 37-year-old father Monday. It was unclear if the father was wearing a life vest.
“Given the [rainy] weather conditions, coupled with the lack of light and the murky water, the search was called off, and we’re going to be switching this to what will likely be a recovery mode,” said Bellevue police officer Tory Mangione.
