A commercial truck carrying a windmill base lost its load Saturday morning after the driver inadvertently sent his trailer over an embankment along Interstate 84, roughly 35 miles east of Baker City.
Oregon State Policecited truck driver Brian Napier, 35, from Marysville, Indiana, for failing to drive within the lane after officers responded to a commercial motor vehicle crash on the interstate at approximately 9:34 a.m.
A statement released by OSP said the truck was traveling eastbound at around 50 miles per hour when it entered a sweeping left corner. The vehicle’s trailer struck the guardrail, damaging about 100 feet of railing before it hit a bridge abutment and hurled over an embankment toward Burnt River.
The trailer came to rest by the river and the windmill base came to rest on the east side of the river bank.
A small grass fire developed but was extinguished by the Huntington Fire Department.
Napier was not injured and the truck was still drivable. He was wearing a safety belt at the time of the incident.
