Sanjay Chandrasekaran has turned the Northeast 28th Avenue space formerly home to his vegan Indian restaurant the Sudra into Bar Asha, a cocktail bar that will carry through some of the Sudra’s menu items.
The Sudra’s closure was announced at the end of April, and Chandrasekaran’s plans for the space were pending on the showing of support by the community between the announcement and the restaurant’s closure at the end of May. “We have had one of the busiest months ever,” Chandrasekaran writes. “It hasn’t felt like this since before the pandemic. I expected an uptick in business but honestly was shocked at how many people were coming out.
