Salt & Straw, easily Portland’s most famous ice cream brand, started as a push-cart in 2011. Cousins and co-founders Tyler Malek and Kim Malek went on to open a shop on NE Alberta soon afterward, serving ice creams in flavors like brown ale and bacon or melon and capicola.
Now, just past the brand’s ten-year anniversary, Salt & Straw has become a national phenomenon. Salt & Straw now operates scoop shops in Florida, California, and Washington, including six locations in the Bay Area and seven in Los Angeles.
