One of Portland’s Best Haitian Carts Just Opened Its First Restaurant

Tap Tap Cuisine, a popular Haitian food cart on N Williams, opened its first standalone restaurant on Saturday, October 19. Bridgetown Bites first reported the news of the opening at 3434 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland. The cart opened in September 2023 serving fried plantains, pwason fri (fried fish), and legumes with goat meat.

Owner Dieuson Alix grew up in Haiti and remembers his mother waking up every morning between 1 and 3 a.m. to prepare food to sell to keep the family afloat; some days she would walk nearly 70 miles between neighborhoods. While Alix was still in school, he would wake up early to lend a hand
