The James Beard Award finalists were announced on Wednesday, April 2 in Los Angeles. For the Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific award, three Oregonians stayed in the running. Joshua Dorcak of MÄS in Ashland, Ryan Roadhouse of Nodoguro in Portland, and Timothy Wastell of Antica Terra in Amity advanced. Portland favorites in Le Pigeon’s Gabriel Rucker and Lovely’s Fifty Fifty’s Sarah Minnick did not go on in the Outstanding Chef category this year, no west coast representation making it to the final round.
A not-so-surprising amount of Oregon talent made it from the semifinalists to the finalists in other categories, though. Kyurim “Q” Lee and Jin Caldwell’s Jinju Patisserie
