The Portland Police Bureau has assigned its Gang Enforcement Team to look into a Wednesday night shooting that left a 21-year-old North Portland woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

North Precinct officers responded to a call at about 10:21 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of North Fiske Avenue and Fessenden Street.

When they arrived, police said, officers learned that Mary Price and five or six children were standing near the corner, setting off fireworks, when a vehicle with at least three men drove by and at least one of them fired multiple shots at the group.

Price was struck and taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, said Lt. Robert King, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman.

Her condition is not known.

Witnessses told police that vehicle drove away westbound on Fessenden. Officers also learned that someone from the group watching fireworks fired back at the vehicle as it drove away. That person then ran north on Fiske and hasn’t been identified.
