ALOHA, Ore. — A shooting in Aloha Monday morning left one person dead and detectives are looking for the suspect.
Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington
County Sheriff’s office said Tuesday that deputies think they know who the suspect is, and that the suspect and victim most likely knew each other. The public is not in any danger, Ray said.
Monday night, investigators served two search warrants in Beaverton. Sgt. Ray said they took some evidence, but he didn’t say Tuesday morning what that evidence is.
The sheriff’s office reported that the victim was walking near Southwest 167th Avenue and Southeast Blanton when someone shot him.
Deputies believe the suspect or suspects fled eastbound on Southwest Blanton Street in a dark sedan. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
“They may be concealing him. They may have information about people who are concealing this person,” Ray said. “We are really reaching out to them to ask them to do the right thing.”
The shooting happened in broad daylight right next to homes with families, and next to a park where kids play.
While it first appeared the incident might have been a drive-by shooting, Ray said Tuesday new information shows that might not be the case anymore.
“Obviously to do this sort of thing any time or place is very tragic,” he said. “But at 8:30 in the morning, a sunny morning in a residential area, it’s pretty brazen.”
Neighbors are stunned. Baljinder Fandhu lives right next to where the shooting happened.
“We woke up this morning to police cars outside, and a bunch of red tape,” she said.
Fandhu described the neighborhood as a nice place to live.
“It’s very friendly. People say hi and nod when you walk by. You’ll have a friendly conversation. At the park, too, families will come and talk to you, it’s a nice neighborhood it really is. I’m super surprised about this.”
“There are kids. It’s a family-friendly neighborhood. You don’t think anything would happen,” neighbor Andrew Abudakar added. “But it just shows you it can happen anywhere. So that’s what’s frightening is you don’t know where it’s going to happen.”
