PORTLAND, Ore. – Five people were injured in a four-car crash in downtown Portland late Friday
night.
One driver was cited for DUII and another driver may face charges.
The crash occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on Southwest Naito Parkway at Market Street. Police said an Infiniti SUV driven by 34-year-old Maika Otsuki was northbound on Naito when she veered into oncoming traffic, collided with a tree on the west of the street, then crashed into a Toyota Camry driven by 51-year-old Heidi Dirkse-Graw.
The collision caused the Camry to spin and crash into a Subaru Forester driven by 38-year-old Ernest Syes. The Infiniti then rolled, landing behind the Camry and crashing into a fourth car, a Ford Focus driven by 27-year-old Carissa Cunningham.
Otsuki, Dirkse-Graw and her passenger, 34-year-old Richard Graw, were taken to hospitals with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. Syes and Cunningham were not seriously hurt. Portland Fire & Rescue said two of the injured people had to be extricated from one of the cars.
Officers determined Dirkse-Graw was impaired by alcohol and cited for DUII. Otsuki’s driving behavior remains under investigation and she could face charges.
Southwest Naito Parkway was reopened at around 2 a.m.
