WinCo files plans to open first Seattle grocery store

WinCo Foods operates over a dozen locations in the Puget Sound area, but there are none in Seattle.

SEATTLE — A new grocery store could be coming to the north Seattle area, replacing the old Sam’s Club that has been vacant for several years.

Engineering firm JSA Civil filed a proposal with the city of Seattle on Sept. 9 on behalf of WinCo Foods to redevelop the building, which is located on Aurora Avenue North near North 137th Street.

As part of the building and land use pre-application, WinCo said it planned to remove and rebuild the southern and eastern walls of the building
