S&P/TSX composite up in late-morning trading, U.S. stocks also trade higher

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, helped by strength in technology stocks, while U.S. stock markets also moved higher.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 21.64 points at 25,465.92.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 397.24 points at 44,693.75. The S&P 500 index was up 26.46 points at 5,995.80, while the Nasdaq composite was up 114.49 points at 19,118.14.

The Canadian dollar traded for 71.47 cents US compared with 71.54 cents US on Friday.

The January crude oil contract was down US$1.92 at US$69.32 per barrel and the January natural gas contract was up 24 cents at US$3.53 per mmBTU.
