TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index edged lower in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the telecommunication and financial sectors, while U.S. stock markets moved higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 8.26 points at 24,543.29.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.48 of a point at 42,374.84. The S&P 500 index was up 38.69 points at 5,848.55, while the Nasdaq composite was up 249.05 points at 18,664.54.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.09 cents US compared with 72.23 cents US on Thursday.
