S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading, U.S. stocks also lower

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down nearly 100 points in late-morning trading, dragged lower by losses in tech, while U.S. stock markets also fell.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 89.32 points at 25,542.51.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 411.26 points at 44,182.39. The S&P 500 index was down 43.80 points at 6,024.70, while the Nasdaq composite was down 106.21 points at 19,537.65.

The Canadian dollar traded for 69.87 cents US compared with 69.90 cents US on Tuesday.

The March crude oil contract was down US$1.31 at US$72.01 per barrel and the March natural gas contract was down two cents at US$3.50
