S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading, U.S. stock markets mixed

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was lower in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the telecom and technology sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 78.61 points at 22,047.52.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 115.76 points at 39,229.03. The S&P 500 index was up 7.60 points at 5,580.45, while the Nasdaq composite was up 43.29 points at 18,447.03.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.30 cents US compared with 73.35 cents US on Monday.

The August crude oil contract was up six cents at US$82.39 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was up four cents
