Portland announces tentative contract agreement with AFSCME city employees

AFSCME Local 189 represents over 1,000 city employees and had Feb. 3 deadline to avert a strike. No word yet on a deal with DCTU, which represents about 200 staff.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The city of Portland announced Thursday morning that it has reached a deal with the larger of two city employee unions that are on the verge of striking amid drawn-out contract negotiations. The parties reached a tentative agreement after almost 18 hours of state-mediated bargaining, according to a joint news release from the city and union.
