PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution Thursday to move forward with plans to rebuild the county’s animal shelter, which is estimated to cost upwards of $85 million, if built in 2028.

In February, Erin Grahek, director of Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS), said the shelter had to keep dogs in offices during a surge of intakes, resulting in the shelter pleading to the community to adopt.
