Oregon Employment Department braces for unemployment claims for federal workers

There are more than 29,000 Oregonians who work for the federal government, and the Oregon Employment Department is preparing for an influx of unemployment claims.

OREGON, USA — Though the Oregon Employment Department does not have a count of how many federal workers have applied for unemployment benefits so far, they’re tracking — and preparing.

Washington state has seen at least 720 claims from federal employees since the start of the year; they have about 78,000 federal workers in the state. 

In Oregon, there are more than 29,000 people in the state who work for the federal government — including 7,000 in the U.S.
