Tribal members fight Portland General Electrics efforts to condemn land near seasonal fishing platform

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are fighting for their right to fish in the same spot as their ancestors.

They are speaking out against Portland General Electric’s efforts to condemn a certain area of Willamette Falls where tribal leaders fought to enact a seasonal fishing platform.

“It’s special,” said John A. George, about the fishing area the tribes consider a historic treasure, “Just knowing that I’m stepping on the rocks that I know my ancestors have done for thousands of years.”
