Businesses file class action lawsuit over alleged ADA compliance shakedown

A KGW investigation found dozens of small businesses that received letters threatening lawsuits if they didn’t correct ADA issues and pay $10,000 in attorney fees.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Several Oregon small businesses filed a federal class action lawsuit alleging a group of lawyers created a sophisticated racketeering scheme involving thousands of fraudulent demand letters and lawsuits brought under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The class-action lawsuit targets the Tennessee law firm of Wampler, Carroll, Wilson & Sanderson, Wade Law and Oregon lawyer Jessica Molligan, along with others. It estimates damages exceed $80 million.
