Seattle, counties open cooling centers, pools to help with weekend heat

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Puget Sound this weekend as temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 100 degrees. City and county officials are preparing cooling centers and shelter for those seeking relief.

“Seattle is expected to experience record-breaking heatwaves,” Mayor Jenny Durkan warned in a Thursday news conference with the parks department, National Weather Service, and fire department. “Protect yourself, protect your family, protect your pets, and protect your neighbors from the heat.”
