Visitor traffic to U.S. National Parks is at an all-time high, but former parks directors warns the recent job cuts could spell trouble.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Recent federal workforce reductions have begun taking a toll on America’s national parks, according to former National Park Service Director Charles “Chuck” Sams III, who highlighted closures and staffing challenges already affecting parks across the country.
“We’re already seeing that it’s having an impact at Yosemite, several of the campgrounds have already been closed down,” Sams said. “We’re seeing that across the park system, visitor centers being shut down, trails being shut down because there’s just not enough staff currently
