‘A Day Without an Immigrants’ national protest shows economic impact as Oregon businesses close in solidarity

GRESHAM, Ore. — Immigrant workers, business owners and advocates across Oregon joined a nationwide “Day Without Immigrants” demonstration on Monday, closing businesses and staging protests to highlight immigrants’ roles in their communities and the economy.

The demonstration drew support from various sectors, including prominent local businesses like Birrieria La Plaza, which closed both its Southeast Portland location and its newly opened restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel’s Flock Food Hall.
