Portland’s Cult-Favorite Vietnamese Bakeshop Berlu Bakery to Close This Month

James Beard Award-winning chef Vince Nguyen announced in an Instagram post on October 2 that he will be closing his celebrated Vietnamese bakeshop, Berlu Bakery; the bakery’s last day open will be October 20. Luckily, this is not the end of the road for the gluten-free, dairy-free bakery, which dexterously added local produce to traditional Vietnamese recipes and drew on Nguyen’s personal history — the chef plans to eventually reopen Berlu in a new, larger location and offer a wider selection of sweet and savory dishes.
