Peter Scott, MD, Carphone Warehouse Ireland, with Minister Richard Bruton
In 2015, Carphone Warehouse Ireland will become Ireland’s newest mobile operator through a partnership with Three, and the telecoms retailer will create 50 new jobs across a variety of sectors in the process.
The new network will be developed over the coming 12 months and the 50 jobs created by this move include marketing, finance, commercial and IT roles, ranging from entry-level to executive-level.
Carphone Warehouse is also seeking entrepreneurial candidates to come on board and help to grow and shape the business.
The retailer-turned-operator already employs over 700 people in Ireland with its first store having opened in 1996.
Since 2008, Carphone Warehouse has opened 20 new stores across the country, investing more than €6m in the Irish market. The brand has also developed retail partnerships with Harvey Norman, Clery’s and Samsung, and its 91 stores countrywide now see over 6.5m visits per year.
“This new partnership with Three opens an exciting new chapter for Carphone Warehouse and for our customers. It allows us to expand our business and create 50 new jobs in a continued challenging retail environment,” said Peter Scott, MD of Carphone Warehouse Ireland. “Carphone Warehouse has always prided itself in offering our customers the most up-to-the-minute technology and connectivity together with world-class customer service. We are looking forward to demonstrating this expertise to develop a mobile service that customers will love.”
Hutchison Whampoa-owned Three is optimally positioned to become the No 1 mobile operator in Ireland after the European Commission approved its acquisition of O2 Ireland from Telefónica for €850m.
“This is the latest in a series of signs of growing confidence in the domestic economy,” said the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD. “Through our Action Plan for Jobs we have put in place measures to help boost the domestic economy, so that we can see a return in consumer spending and support the jobs growth we badly need.”
