Just one year after its completion, the surface of the Morrison Bridge is cracking, reported Joseph Rose. The construction company has sued the maker of the bridge decking and the supplier. Multnomah County has sued all three parties.

Authorities stopped a man from jumping off Vista Bridge in Southwest Portland last night, a spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue said. Everton Bailey Jr. has the details.

Federal prosecutors have dropped charges against a former Portland man who claims the FBI orchestrated his torture overseas after he refused to be a spy at a mosque in Southwest Portland. Helen Jung has the story.

Portland Community College now has a counselor dedicated to serving veterans through the VetSuccess on Campus Program from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. James Hill, a spokesman for PPC, said the counselor’s job is to guide veterans through educational benefits, like the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The school is one of 94 chosen by Veterans Affairs for the program, Hill said, and has more than 1,400 veterans on its campuses. The counselor is located on the Sylvania campus in Southwest Portland.

The Metro Council approved a grant of about $83,000 to build a bridge, boardwalk and observation deck at April Hill Park in Southwest Portland, reported the Southwest Portland Post, but $33,000 is still needed to meet permitting deadlines.

A representative of the European Union, which won the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, will speak tonight at Lewis & Clark Law School, according to a press release from the Wholistic Peace Institute. Silvia Kofler, a spokesperson for the EU in the United States, will speak at 5:30 p.m. about “The European Union’s Role in Peace and Security Issues in the Middle East.”
