Quinn Hughes will have to wait another year for league-wide validation.
Despite vast improvements in his defensive game and scoring at nearly a point per game for a team that was a defensive mess when he wasn’t on the ice, the Vancouver Canucks defenceman is not a finalist for the 2023 James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to recognized the NHL’s best defencemen.
The award is voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association. No Canucks defenceman has ever been a finalist for the Norris.
