A Medford man was killed when his SUV crashed into a commercial truck near Eagle Point on Friday, according to state police.
Kim Pitzl, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 12:20 p.m. along Oregon 62 near milepost 62. Pitzl was traveling west in a silver 2003 Ford Escape when he drove across the center line, narrowly missed one eastbound vehicle and then crashed into a 2007 Freightliner truck that was towing an unloaded box trailer, police said.
The driver of the truck, Bryan Thompson, 44, of Medford, was not hurt. State police said they were responding to a call of a silver SUV driving erratically on Oregon 62 before the crash occurred. Police are looking into whether the incidents are related and the crash is still under investigation.
